There is something inconceivably certain about the way a clock makes us think how we are going to die. Is it the constant ticking, much like our heart, that reminds us our time is short? Or is it the fact that the hands always push forward and never back, reminding us that we can never undo past mistakes? Or maybe, just maybe, it's because we have the knowledge that eventually that clock is going to stop, need a battery change or a rewinding, but us humans rarely get such a chance. Instead, we stare at clocks as they synchronize with the beating of our hearts. The ticking and thumping get louder and louder until nothing but the doom that eventually one must stop takes over. The frantic beatings gnaw away at our body and makes the blood rush. It reminds us that time is running out.

'!everybody knows that life can be wonderful!'

While sincerity can cause the most pain, it also causes the most joy when the light of it shines through to the blind.
You are never alone when you are by yourself in a place no-one else is, the top of a high mountain, the deserted beach watching waves crash on the shore, the still lake surrounded by trees and undisturbed by human presence. You are only alone when you are in the company of those who seem to ignore you. Seek out the solitude of those places where you are surrounded just by the majesty and glory, the wonder that is the earth, the silence of an empty cathedral where you can gaze in awe at the skill of the masons who used stone and wood to draw your eyes upwards and not downwards. In those places, in that quiet you can think unbothered by the clamour of the world. In that calm your answers will come.
Seek out the lonely whose path you cross every day at school, at work, in your neighbourhood. They need no words of wisdom, no sage advice, no well-meant but futile "cheer up, be happy, have a nice day". They only need a smile. Smile and know that however small it is you brought a little sunshine to their lives. They will come to look forward to that smile and you? You will come to look forward to it as well.
